GET ME UP IN THE MORNING, LORD <>< Judy Burhans

GET ME UP IN THE MORNING, LORD
“It is good to praise the Lord and make music to Your name, O Most High.
To proclaim Your live in the morning and Your faithfulness at night,
To make music on a ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp.
For You make me glad by Your deeds, O Lord;
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands!”
Psalm 92:1-4

This morning, I was late getting my last two kids out of the house and into the classroom. I had fallen asleep, last night, doing my typing, and when I woke up, it was already 30 minutes past the time that I normally get up, only one of five children was up getting ready, and she was nowhere near at the point she needed to be, either, in order to get out the door and down to the bus pick-up point. Arrrgh! What should I do?

Believe it or not, I folded up my blanket and thanked God for the night now past and the day now broken. I thanked Him for being able to get up and move and to get us all moving well – without the chaos that normally happens when we’re running late. Another believe it or not, all the bus-catchers made it to their busses on time; I got my letters finished and my bill printed out, lunches made, and even got a shower – all without chaos or yelling from anyone. The boys were late, but I took full responsibility for that, and now I’m sitting in my office, letting the adrenaline slow down.

I have to admit, prayer is not usually the first thing I do under these circumstances. Prayer is usually not what I do at all before I get to my office, unless it’s to look at the mountains on the way in and thank God for His beauty and creation, but after seeing how much different it was than how it could have been, I wonder why not. Why isn’t prayer the first thing out of my mouth when I open my eyes? Why is God not the first thing I think of before my mind clamps onto the things I have to do, today; or catch up on from yesterday?

I’ll work on that. I know God has me on His mind first thing in the morning. . .

“Before the day, before the light, before the world revolved around the sun
God on high stepped down into time and wrote the story of His love for everyone.
He has filled our hearts with wonder so that we always remember -

You and I are made to worship, you and I are called to love,
You and I are forgiven and free.
When you and I embrace surrender, when you and I choose to believe,
Then you and I will see who we were meant to be.

All we are, and all we have is all a gift from God that we receive.
Brought to life, we opened up our eyes to see the majesty and glory of the King.
He has filled our hearts with wonder, so that we always remember

You and I were made to worship, you and I are called to love,
You and I are forgiven and free.
When you and I embrace surrender, when you and I choose to believe,
Then you and I will see who we were meant to be.

Even the rocks cry out, even the heavens shout at the sound of His holy name.
So let every voice sing out, and let every knee bow down, He is worthy of all our praise.”
